Operating Principle

The operating principle entails using a high-voltage electrical field to simultaneously charge and collect airborne particles.

This simple and dependable technology stands to revolutionize the field of microscopic analysis of particulate matter. Based on a concept developed by NIOSH researchers, the handheld ESPnano sampler collects particulate matter onto a wide variety of media for analysis by methods such as SEM, TEM and EDS. Sample analysis yields data including particle morphology, particle size distribution, particle surface area and particle composition.

Developed by NIOSH for the purpose of nanoparticle characterization (AS&T vol 44, 2010), the ESPnano has high collection efficiency over a wide particle size range, resulting in fully representative aerosol samples for both research and industrial hygiene applications.
